Safe operation of cranes and lifting equipment is of paramount importance to any offshore asset, whether platform, FPSO, MODU or vessel. Lifting a 10 tonne load from the back of a crowded supply vessel in a 4 metre swell when you are 40 metres above the vessel, and doing it safely time after time, regardless of weather and light conditions, requires skill and confidence.

Sparrows know about offshore crane operation and have been at the forefront of the industry in developing and raising standards for safe crane operation- its crane operator training programme has gone on to become an industry standard in the UK and internationally while in the US, Sparrows trains crane operators to the highest standards of API and IADC.

In recognition of cost conscious market drivers, Sparrows pioneered multi-skilled Crane Maintainer / Operators to the industry in the UK in the early nineties. Now the demand for such an approach is spreading to many Oil & Gas hubs.

But being a trained Crane Operator is not enough. It is essential that continuing competence is demonstrated and Sparrows has instigated a programme of 2-yearly competence checks (now mostly undertaken using an onshore simulator) and tailored Technical / Vocational Qualifications to ensure knowledge and skills are maintained.

With a pool of over 231 - UK, 27 - US and 47 international, qualified Crane Operators, Sparrows can provide support to drilling and maintenance campaigns, workovers and other activities requiring 24-hour operation.
