Pipe and Cable Carousels

Sparrows Baricon is a leading designer and supplier of shipboard installation and onshore process/storage carousels for handling flexible pipe, cables and umbilicals. The carousel specification can be of either the basket or vertical spooling design and can be hydraulic or electric drive.

For shipboard applications, the lower capacities generally up to around 1000Te can be handled in one lift to minimise mobilisation time. The higher capacity shipboard carousels are normally mobilised in 2 or 3 lifts. Most of the shipboard carousels are manufactured in segments/sections for ease of transport from the fabricator to final assembly site, this assembly site in some cases being inside the hold of a ship, with the components being installed through a deck hatch.

The process/storage carousels are of similar but lighter design for static land based applications. These are normally assembled in their final operating position and are generally not liftable once assembled.

Carousels can be supplied as standalone units, but most are supplied as part of a system, which also includes other equipment such as spoolers, loading arms, deck chutes, conveyor roller assemblies, compensators, tensioners and lay chutes for the shipboard applications. Systems are provided with fully integrated network based PLC control system which may also include SCADA for integration and selection of machine combinations, system start up and stopping sequencing, and process control.
