Baricon deliver 650Te Auxiliary Reel to Technip
22/01/2010
The load out of the reel assembly was the culmination of six months work which involved the incident free, “fast track” of design, manufacturing, assembly and commissioning from a normal lead time of 11 months. Following its initial design and manufacture at our Brechin contractor the structure was later transferred to Montrose Harbour, more suitable for its increasing size, for final manufacture and assembly work.
The final load out of the 260Te structure was performed using heavy lift craneage onto the Technip vessel, which then transferred the reel to its final destination. Following on from the success of the load out Baricon will be contracted to assist in the installation and commissioning of the reel system to the client’s vessel before it goes into service offshore.
Baricon’s Chief Operating Officer, Ewen Kerr stated: “I am very proud of the way my team have responded to the many challenges set in delivering this project incident free, within a very tight time scale. This has also demonstrated the increased resources Baricon now has available as part of the Energy Cranes group. Support from various members of our group ensured we delivered a quality result within a short timescale.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to give a special mention to Dave Cooper, who has just retired from the Company. As many colleagues are aware I worked for Dave for many years on the Shell Contract and it was especially pleasing for me that his last job was to be the Baricon Site Representative for the load out and assembly of the reel at Montrose. What made this all the more significant was the fact that Dave’s first job working in the North East was at Montrose Harbour. I would like to thank Dave for all his support, advice and friendship over the years and wish him and Sheila the very best for the future.”
The Baricon personnel instrumental in this project were Matthew Sharkey, Chief Engineer; Mike Morrison, Project Engineer; Ejaz Mughal, Snr Design Engineer; Neal Ferguson, Project Engineer; Mike Milne, Snr Hydraulic Tech and Kevin Brebner, Snr Electrical Tech.
Group support was provided by Sparrows Aberdeen team: Dave Cooper, Tony Myers, Willy Hector, Larry Caldwell, Sandy Finnie, Mike Strachan and Janusz Tatka, and Energy Cranes’ Godwin Simanjuntak.
