Lifting Plan Review & Endorsement
- What the Technical Authority/Responsible Person should ascertain when reviewing/endorsing lifting plans (list not exhaustive):
- identification of hazards have been risk assessed
- suitable control measures are in place
- lifting equipment is correctly rated and certified with all
- accessories and lift points visually checked
- availability of certified lifting points
- process to be followed when using uncertified lifting points
- trained and competent personnel to carry out the lifting operation
- de-rating of equipment/accessories (included angles etc)
- the load path has been selected and cleared of obstructions and/or conflicting operations
- the lay down area(s) are adequate in both size and load
- bearing capacity
- suitable materials available for protection of the load/equipment
- barriers are positioned and/or suitable warnings issued to prevent unauthorised access
- confirm the lay down area is within the operating range of the crane
- weather conditions and their effect on the safety of the lift have
- been taken into consideration
- has a meeting been held to discuss plan, do all personnel involved fully understand the plan and has all relevant information been passed on to all parties?
Delegate Case Studies
During this element delegates will be provided with case studies to develop and review/endorse suitable and sufficient lifting plans for routine and complicated lifting operations.

- Typical crane pre-operational checks
- Typical crane weekly/monthly routines
- Thorough examination process
- Written scheme of thorough examination
- Crane certification
- Competence of maintenance personnel and examination engineers
Practical Element (Crane Operations)
This practical element consists of delegates being introduced to typical crane types and given a practical introduction to the crane systems, safety devices, load bearing components and crane operating techniques.
Historical evidence points to the learning benefits to be derived from delegates having the opportunity to operate the crane (un-laden) under the direct supervision of the training instructor. They gain valuable knowledge and insight from both the operator and load handler perspective.
Theoretical Examination
As this is a certificated training course, delegates will be required to complete the multi-choice theoretical question paper and achieve a minimum result of 80% for certification purposes.
